I am trying to argue the case of LN Domino over Sharepoint. The case seems pretty convincing to me.
Can anyone add to my list of advantages so far:
1) Document centric architecture that can also work in a relational way as required. Offers the security and local access of document centric system but so also the possibility of integration with diverse data sources
2)Integration with mail environmment(Domino ) is better
3) Easier to upgrade- backwards compatibility. Upgrades do not destroy previous investments or require risky and time consuming migration planning on the same scale as with Sharepoint and Exchange
4) Sharepoint Designer can only handle the simplest developments and Real development actually requires Visual Studio and .net development skills (with extra licence costs and developer costs). It cannot handle complex workflow applications to the same degree of ease or proficiency as Lotus Notes
5) Data storage is included in the Notes Domino licence package. But Sharepoint requires a SQL Server licence and expertise also.
6) There is a lack of fine grained control over the replication of data over a distributed server environment. Offline data and business logic works better.
7) Security control of documents, fields or sections is possible with Notes and not with Sharepoint to any great degree
8) Events model in Notes works with web (XPages and with Notes forms). With Sharepoint you can use list actions but need C# to make them work.
